Overview
KHCS offers an excellent and diversified fine arts program. Students in grades K-4 through 6th grade receive musical instruction and training every week. These General Music classes provide students with the fundamental knowledge and experience to thrive in whatever musical endeavors they choose. Through singing, percussion instrument training, rhythmic exercises, recorder programs, and numerous other hands-on strategies, students develop not only musical proficiency, but also cross-curriculum applications.
Extracurricular Opportunities
In addition to the core musical studies offered at KHCS, students have many additional musical avenues in which they can flourish. KHCS provides both band and orchestra ensembles at the Elementary, Jr. High, and High School levels. The orchestra program, consisting of bowed string instruments such as violin, viola, cello, and string bass, is offered as early as the first grade, while band, which consists of brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments, begins in the fifth grade. Orchestra and Band students have the opportunity to participate in the Georgia Music Educators fine arts and other competitions.
Private Lessons
KHCS also offers private instruction in piano, flute, and string instruments (violin and viola) to students in grades 1-12. Students are taught one-on-one during the school day (missing no academic instruction) or before or after school. Lessons consist of 30 or 45-minute segments once per week and are customized to the individual student’s abilities and needs. These private lessons are designed to enhance technical skills, artistic development, and overall musicianship. Students who take private lessons are given the opportunity to perform in festivals and assessments through the Georgia Music Educators Association, the National Federation of Music Clubs, and the National Piano Guild as well as competing in fine arts events through the Georgia Association of Christian Schools and at nationals through the American Association of Christian Schools. Students also have a variety of other outlets for performance including annual recitals, school concerts, chamber groups, and other ensembles.
