Secondary School

JUNIOR HIGH (Grades 7 – 8)

The junior high program at Killian Hill is about fully equipping our students—mind, body, and spirit—for the next step in their lives.

KHCS junior high schoolers are smoothly transitioned into Secondary School through a peer mentoring program, where underclassmen are placed in small relationship-building groups where mentoring is provided by upperclassmen.

Our Program

Daily core subjects include language arts, math, social studies, science, and Bible – all of which are taught through learner-centered methods in a climate of high expectations. Special classes at Killian Hill include art, chorus, band, orchestra, drama, Intro to Digital Technology, and physical education. Advanced content classes are offered in math for qualifying students. In addition to interactive classes, students benefit from weekly chapel, peer-to-peer mentors, and extracurricular activities.

Extracurricular Activities

Academic Teams: KHCS offers students the opportunity to participate in competitive math, quiz bowl, debate, and robotics teams.

Athletics: Sports teams offered include, basketball, cross-country, soccer, tennis, and volleyball.

Fine Arts: Drama, chorus, band, and orchestra are available both as part of the curriculum and as extracurricular activities. KHCS offers private, thirty-minute piano, strings, and flute lessons on campus once a week.

Technology and Media Integration

Technology is integrated across the curriculum through student-owned mobile wireless devices, computer labs, LCD projectors, and classroom interactive whiteboards. The library contains both print and non-print media for pleasure reading, non-fiction reading, and academic research.

Learning Discoveries

The Learning Discoveries program provides student support for non-traditional learners. There is an additional fee for this support program.

Our Methods

Application:

Real-world experiences and authentic scenarios, such as hands-on science experiments undergird the core curriculum, promoting problem-solving and lending relevancy.

Homework:

Students in grades 7–8 receive regular homework assignments during the week, and special projects (book reports, theme papers, etc.) are assigned with more advance notification. Homework assignments and grades are available on the internet through ParentsWeb.

Learner-Centered Approach:

Students are actively engaged in the learning process through fully equipped science labs, math manipulatives, classroom debates, and technology integration. Questions are encouraged; collaboration is promoted, and critical thinking is fostered.

HIGH SCHOOL (Grades 9 – 12)

The high school program at Killian Hill is about fully equipping our students—mind, body, and spirit—for the next step in their lives. Training Scholars, Making Disciples, and Graduating Leaders. Launching them into secure, bright, and promising futures.

Annual Senior Trip: The annual overseas or domestic senior trip has an educational and missions focus to places such as France ( Paris), Greece, Great Britain (London, Edinburgh), Italy (Rome), Spain (Barcelona), and other European countries (pre COVID) help to broaden student perspectives and solidify their faith.

Leadership Development: Students have opportunities to participate in student government, peer mentoring, National Honor Society, and more.

Our Program

College Preparatory:

KHCS SAT scores exceed county, state, and national averages, and 100 percent of KHCS graduates are accepted into one or more of their college choices. KHCS offers the SAT exam on-campus each Spring and the PSAT exam for 8th-11th graders.

Academics:

Students are immersed in a challenging liberal arts curriculum that prepares them course-by-course to be difference-makers in their future lives. Core subjects are English, math, social studies, science, Bible, and foreign language. In addition to interactive weekly chapels, every subject is taught through the lens of Biblical Truth. A variety of student-led Bible studies supports the commitment to the study of our faith.

There are a broad range of electives offered both in-house and online through the Georgia Virtual School Georgia Dual Enrollment programs. Offerings include college prep, AP and college-level courses through several Georgia colleges and universities. KHCS also offers students the opportunity to participate in competitive math, quiz bowl, debate, and robotics teams.

Extracurricular Activities

Athletics: Competitive sports teams participate in the Georgia Independent Christian Athletic Association (GICAA) and include basketball, cross-country, soccer, tennis, and volleyball.

Arts: Drama, chorus, band, and orchestra are available both as part of the curriculum and as extracurricular activities. KHCS offers private, thirty-minute piano, strings, and flute lessons on campus once a week.

Learning Discoveries

The Learning Discoveries program offers student support for non-traditional learners. There is an additional fee for this support program.

Our Methods

Open Dialogue:

High school students learn in a culture of open dialogue where relevant ideas are discussed, but absolutes are embraced. Every course, from science to foreign language, is specifically designed to develop critical thinking abilities, discovery, and investigation in a collaborative setting and to integrate a faith that is willing to be counter-cultural.

Students in grades 9-12 receive regular homework assignments during the week, and special projects (book reports, theme papers, etc.) are assigned with more advance notification. Homework assignments and grades are available on the internet through ParentsWeb.

Our Teachers

KHCS teachers are experts in their field, and many of the high school teachers possess advanced degrees in their content area. Every teacher is dedicated to the Christian faith and committed to integrating Biblical Truth into all aspects of school life. Our teachers regularly provide student support during after-school help classes.
